I don’t have the heart, one moment in time!

Two amazing songs I just listened to

What a way to start my day. The first song I listened to was “I don’t have the heart”by James Ingram. As if that was not enough it was then “One moment in time” by Whitney Houston. Whitney took me away. For a little while I was lost.  That beat, those words, those two songs were quite magical for me. I love music but for the most part work in silence. So when I get to listen to poetry like this it can be a profound experience. “I don’t have the heart” by James Ingram is possibly one of his best songs. It’s one of those songs I enjoyed as a kid even when I had absolutely no idea what he was singing about. So today I looked up the lyrics to get an idea of what it was about. Obviously love was involved. The man was fully invested in that song. You could tell by the way James Ingram sang it. He put his heart and soul into that song. The variation in pitch throughout the song is amazing especially towards the end.I do wonder if he can still sing like that after all these years.

Whitney’s song One moment in time is quite an emotional journey. Her message is incredibly powerful, deeply inspiring. Please read it and see what I mean. You will know what I am talking about. She shares a message that can be a mantra in our lives.  It is a declaration of victory in our doubts dreams over our doubts and fears. I think we should all have this one moment in time.  I realise that the legend is no longer with us but we will always have her with us. I associate that song with the Olympics. I think it was released around the time of the Olympics, which ones I am not too sure, perhaps the 1984. Actually it was 1988.

It is tempting to say they don’t make music like they used to but I know great music is still  being made. Music like many things continues to evolve. However, I believe that the 80s and 90s will always have a special place in my heart when it comes to music. For me it seems extra effort when into coming up with that final product. I suspect that I am very biased because that is the time when I Iistened to music a great deal in my life.

Here are the lyrics:

Whitney Houston (1988)

“One Moment In Time”

Each day I live
I want to be
A day to give
The best of me
I’m only one
But not alone
My finest day
Is yet unknown I broke my heart
Fought every gain
To taste the sweet
I face the pain
I rise and fall
Yet through it all
This much remains

I want one moment in time
When I’m more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me
Give me one moment in time
When I’m racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will feel
I will feel eternity

I’ve lived to be
The very best
I want it all
No time for less
I’ve laid the plans
Now lay the chance
Here in my hands

Give me one moment in time
When I’m more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me
Give me one moment in time
When I’m racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will feel
I will feel eternity

You’re a winner for a lifetime
If you seize that one moment in time
Make it shine

Give me one moment in time
When I’m more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me
Give me one moment in time
When I’m racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will be
I will be
I will be free
I will be
I will be free

James Ingram (1989)

“I Don’t Have The Heart”

Your face is beaming
You say it’s ’cause you’re dreaming
Of how good it’s going to be
You say you’ve been around
And now you’ve finally found
Everything you wanted and needed in meI don’t have the heart to hurt you
It’s the last thing I want to do
But I don’t have the heart to love you
Not the way you want me to

Inside I’m dying
To see you crying
How can I make you understand
I care about you
So much about you, baby
I’m trying to say this as gently as I can

‘Cause I don’t have the heart to hurt you
It’s the last thing I want to do
But I don’t have the heart to love you
Not the way you want me to

You’re so trusting and open
Hoping that love will start
But I don’t have the heart, oh, no
I don’t have the heart

I don’t have the heart to hurt you
It’s the last thing I want to do
But I don’t have the heart to love you
Not the way that you want me to

I don’t have the heart (Ooh…)
(Baby, I don’t have the heart, I don’t have the heart)
I don’t have the heart (Ooh…)
(Baby, I don’t have)

I don’t have the heart
I don’t have the heart
I don’t have the heart…
